Dress Code

Golf Course

Neat, clean and pressed golfing attire is to be worn at all times.

Shoes must be accredited golf type shoes.  Spikes must be non-metal (ie. soft) and dimple soled shoes are permitted.  Shorts, if worn, must be tailored, neatly pressed and worn with long socks, short plain socks or VGC or other Club-logoed socks.  Short socks must be well above the ankles.

Members are responsible for the correct attire of their guests and should inform them prior to their visit to the Club.

Dress Code Update – as 11 October 2024

The Victoria Golf Club has a rich history of adapting to the times while respecting our traditions. Over the years, we’ve modernised the dress code on the golf course, allowing for a blend of classic standards; like tucked-in shirts and minimal branding, alongside fashion-forward trends. This balance has been well received by our Members and guests alike.

However, within the clubhouse, it has become apparent that the current dress code no longer reflects the evolving needs and preferences of our diverse membership. We recognise that Members and their guests, particularly non-members, sometimes find the current restrictions limiting.

In response to ongoing Member feedback and in light of the evolving social landscape, the VGC Board has reviewed the dress code and has decided to implement the following changes:

New Minimum Dress Code Policy: “Neat Casual” Effective immediately, we are pleased to announce a more relaxed and modern dress code in the following clubhouse areas:

  • Main Bar
  • Ogilvy Terrace
  • Members’ Lounge

This change aligns VGC with similar venues frequented by our Members and encourages a more inclusive, comfortable, and enjoyable environment. While the Golf Course, Dining Room and Rotunda will maintain the current dress code.

To help clarify the change and the meaning of Neat Casual,

Attire that is permitted

  • Fashionable jeans (clean, non-ripped)
  • Shorts (depending on occasion and climate)
  • Plain T-shirt (no slogans), polo shirt, turtleneck
  • Loafers, sneakers (with or without socks), sandals
  • Shirts may be tucked in or untucked

Attire that is NOT permitted

  • Singlet tops
  • Any form of sports or athletic wear (gym clothes, tracksuits, leggings, tights and tennis skirts)
  • Footwear: thongs, scuffs, dilapidated footwear, gumboots, moccasins, slippers and UGG boots (neat, strapped sandals permitted)
  • Torn, ripped or ragged clothing of any kind (including designer)
  • Unclean clothing
  • Beachwear, including bathing suits and board shorts
  • Tops or dresses showing bare midriff
  • Any clothing displaying obscene or offensive messages

We believe that this change will not only reflect the modern trends but also create a more welcoming atmosphere for members and their guests. We are confident this update will enhance your experience at VGC without compromising our club’s values.

Kind regards,

The Board of Victoria Golf Club
